I did my endurance piece today. I sucked in deep breaths and clapped the rhythm for five minutes. Effectively hyperventilating, which gave me a really interesting experience of time etc after I had finished.

IMCA 230 - Performance Art - Short Performance Exercise #3

CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY, MONTREAL, 2007

I plan to ask the audience to split into those willing to partake in the ritual and those unwilling to partake in the ritual. Then I will take the non-willing participants out of the space, I will light a candle and then do a five minute exercise from my sufi experiences. The idea is that the people who do the meditation with me will have had their perceptual apparatus affected for the rest of the performances. For this reason I need the piece to be performed at the start.

I had to develop a piece that was concerned with space. I had an hour to work on that. I was interested in inner space so i did this piece that required heavy audience participation. I split the group into two and one group perceived one half of the performance and the other group perceived the other half.

PRE - PERFORMANCE:

This weeks exercise requires that we select from one of the "performance recipes" that we looked at in class. This was a series of pre-prepared performance instruction cards that was generated by local Montreal artists as a performance document.
